Hon. David Hickey

David Hickey is the Minister responsible for the New Brunswick Housing Corporation and Member of the Legislative Assembly for the riding of Saint John Harbour.
Elected to the New Brunswick legislature in 2024, Mr. Hickey is recognized for his background as a former city councillor, community advocate, and spokesperson on issues related to homelessness and urban development.
Prior to his election to the Legislative Assembly, Mr. Hickey served as Saint John City Councillor, representing Ward 3 from 2019 to 2024. As Councillor, he was actively engaged in community-focused initiatives, including efforts to develop the Uptown core and improve housing outcomes in the city.
As Minister, he is focused on advancing housing affordability with the creation of 1,760 affordable homes, increasing supply by 30,000 units, and supporting initiatives that will reduce chronic homelessness by 40% across New Brunswick. His work reflects a broader commitment to ensuring that all New Brunswickers have access to safe, stable, and affordable housing.
Born and raised in Saint John, Mr. Hickey studied business and economics at the University of New Brunswick. He has also been actively involved in politics at the national level, having worked with federal Liberal Members of Parliament and served as National Chair of the Young Liberals of Canada.
As the youngest member of Cabinet, Mr. Hickey brings both local experience and forward-looking perspectives to his role.
