Hon. Pat Finnigan
- Minister of Agriculture, Aquaculture and Fisheries
Pat Finnigan was elected in the 2024 general election to represent the Kent North riding during the 61st legislature. He was appointed Minister of Agriculture, Aquaculture and Fisheries.
Mr. Finnigan is the second of nine children in his family. He grew up and went to school in Rogersville. On a small family farm in the rural community, he quickly learned the importance of responsibility and hard work, as well as sharing and mutual support, in good times and in bad. After graduating from high school, Mr. Finnigan went on to the Nova Scotia Agricultural College, now part of Dalhousie University, where he earned a degree in plant science.
He worked for several years at the New Brunswick Department of Agriculture before starting his own greenhouse vegetable farm with his wife Lise.
Following in his father’s footsteps, Mr. Finnigan got involved early in community, provincial, and federal life, sitting on several boards, including those of the Rogersville Chamber of Commerce and local sports associations, and served, more broadly, as Chair of the Miramichi Regional Health Authority and President of CBDC Atlantic. He was also President of the Agricultural Alliance of New Brunswick, representing over 1 000 farmers and others. At the same time, Mr. Finnigan built and managed his greenhouse business, including the Mr. Tomato market, which has served the region well for over 40 years, contributing to the local economy and becoming a tourist destination.
Mr. Finnigan is a former Member of Parliament who represented the Miramichi—Grand Lake riding for two terms (2015-2021). He chaired the Standing Committee on Agriculture and Agri-Food and was a member of the Standing Committee on Fisheries and Oceans.
Mr. Finnigan and Lise are the parents of two children, Vicky and Derek, and grandparents of three.
